About Permanent Makeup

  • Powder brows, also known as microshading, is a soft, more natural-looking method of doing permanent makeup.

Microshading is done using a small, handheld tattoo device. The needle “pokes” the skin rather than “cutting” the skin (commonly known as microblading.) The shading method causes less trauma to the skin and yields better healed results.

This technique is suitable for all skin types and can help achieve definition, fullness, symmetry, while also enhancing the structure and shape of your brows! If you love the way your brows look when they’re filled in with a pencil- powder brows are for you!

Permanent makeup is completed in two sessions, scheduled 6-8 weeks apart. Our skin will only retain so much pigment at one time, which is why a second session is needed to achieve optimal results. Your touchup appointment is included when you book!

  • Lip blushing is a semi-permanent tattoo that rejuvenates the natural color and shape of your lips. This is done by depositing colored pigment into your lips and along your lip line to enhance the overall look. Healed results look similar to a lip tint or stain, not a full blown lipstick look. Results are soft and subtle. It can make your natural lips look more defined and can give the illusion of more depth and fullness.

Colors are custom formulated for every client. You are welcome to bring in your favorite lipstick or a reference color. Lips will appear boldest and brightest is the first 48 hours and will lighten significantly in the first week. Swelling and/or bruising may occur and usually subsides within 24 hours. If you are prone to cold sores, you should take your prescribed medication leading up to your appointment and during the healing to avoid an outbreak.

  • The first 45-60 minutes of your appointment is spent grooming and mapping the brows. The brows are cleaned up with a dermaplaning razor and by tweezing. The “mapping” is the white outline I draw to frame the brow, acting as my guide.

The goal is simple: enhance and improve. I do that by utilizing as much of the existing brow hair as possible, combined with your unique facial features. I’ll artistically determine key elements such as placement, width, and overall style. My clients appreciate how OCD I am when it comes to creating the most flattering shape for them.

Equally important is brow color! There are two things that influence my pigment choices: your brow and/or natural hair color, and skin tone. We want the brows to look authentic, so formulating to mimic your natural coloring helps achieve that. The skin’s undertone plays a significant role as well to ensure they don’t heal too warm or ashy! I custom formulate to create a visual balance.

  • Unlike a traditional tattoo, permanent makeup is actually semi-permanent. Cosmetic pigment is designed to gradually fade over time. You can freshen up your brow or lip color as needed by scheduling annual touchups.

That said, permanent makeup has a life span of 2-3 years depending on the following factors:

Skin type. Dry skin tends to have the best retention, whereas oily skin may fade more quickly.

Sun exposure. UV rays can cause premature fading. Protect your investment and apply SPF on your brows.

Skincare. The use of retinol or exfoliating ingredients can cause the brows to lighten prematurely. (Examples: glycolic/salicylic acid, tretinoin, hydroquinone, etc.)

Medications. The use of certain medications can change the chemical makeup of the skin, which may effect pigment retention.

Pre-care and aftercare. It is very important to follow the proper steps leading up to your appointment and during the healing process to ensure optimal results.

  • You are not a candidate for permanent makeup if:

    You are under 18

    You are pregnant or breastfeeding

Have been on Accutane within the past year

Have HIV or Hepatitis or any other infectious or viral diseases

    Currently Undergoing Chemotherapy

  • Unlike microblading, powder brows is a minimally invasive treatment with very little discomfort. Most clients report little to no pain! It’s a light scratching sensation combined with the vibration of the machine (which some say is soothing!)

A topical anesthetic is applied during the procedure to numb the treatment area and minimize any discomfort. Added bonus: the numbing gel also reduces swelling and redness, so clients can go about their day as normal afterward.

Lips are a bit more sensitive, so I will pre numb before the treatment and throughout. If you are nervous about pain, you may take 1-2 Tylenol 30 minutes before your appointment. DO NOT take Advil or drink coffee beforehand. Coffee and/or Advil can make you more sensitive during the procedure.

 About Your Appointment

  • Congratulations on your journey to new brows!

It all starts with a good canvas! Proper pre-care is essential for achieving optimal results.

    What To Avoid:

    • To minimize the potential of bleeding, please avoid alcohol and blood thinners such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Fish Oil and Vitamin E.

    • No exercising/heavy sweating the day of your appointment.

    • Avoid tanning/excessive sun exposure 1-2 weeks before.

    • Discontinue the use of Retinol products 2-3 weeks before your appointment.

    • Chemical/laser facials should be scheduled 4-6 weeks before or after your PMU treatment.

    For Powder Brows:

    • Please avoid waxing, threading, tweezing and tinting two weeks prior to your treatment. I want to utilize as much the natural brow hair as possible and will clean them up for you!

    • You are welcome to come to your appointment with a freshly washed face, or full face of makeup. Either way, I will clean the treatment area before starting.

    For Lip Blush:

    • Please gently exfoliate your lips (if needed) and keep them moisturized leading !p to the appointment. We need the lip tissue to be as healthy as possible to work on!

    • Lip blushing cannot be done when cold sores are present. Please be aware the treatment may trigger an outbreak for carriers of the herpes simplex virus. It is highly recommended to take an anti-viral medication 5 days before, then the day of if you are prone to cold sores.

  • Your goal is to keep the treatment area clean, dry and moisturized for two weeks following the treatment. I will provide you with products to care for your new brows/lips.

    Day 1 ABSORB

    • Blot the brows with a clean cotton pad every 30 minutes to absorb excess lymph fluid. This will prevent the clear fluid from hardening and forming an invisible-like scab over the brows.

    DAY 1 - 10 WASH

    • Cleanse the brows morning & night with the cleanser provided in your aftercare bag

    • Apply one pump of foaming cleanser to the brows and gently massage in a circular motion to remove dirt, debris, oils, and dead skin.

    • Rinse thoroughly. (Don’t worry, washing the brows doesn’t remove the pigment)

    • Gently pat the brows dry using a clean tissue.

    DAY 1 - 10 MOISTURIZE

    • Apply a very thin layer of ointment 3x day (after each wash and once mid-day.)

    • Less is more! Do not over apply, otherwise it suffocates the skin and will delay healing.

    • For lips, you’ll want to reapply the ointment throughout the day to keep them moisturized.

    • Never apply ointment over damp/wet skin- the treatment area should be completely dry!

    Important Reminders

Use a fresh pillowcase when you sleep (try not to sleep face down)

Let any dry flakes of skin naturally exfoliate on their own. Picking may result in loss of color

Avoid long, hot showers for the first week (also, no saunas!)

Do not apply any other products over the treatment site until fully healed.

Avoid skincare products containing retinol, glycolic or lactic acid, AHAs, or exfoliants.

Protect your brows from direct sunlight (wear a hat!)

No chemical facial, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks
